ā€œ I have a son. His name is Mieczyslaw Stilinski... But we call him Stiles. I remember. When Stiles was a little kid, he couldn't say his first name. I don't know why, it pretty much rolls off the tongue. But, uh... the closest he could get was "mischief." His mother called him that until... I remember when, uh... When Stiles first got his Jeep. It belonged to his mother-- she wanted him to have it. The first time when he took a spin behind the wheel, he went straight into a ditch. I gave him his first roll of duct tape that day. He was always getting into trouble, but he always had a good heart. Always. We're here tonight because my goofball son decided to drag Scott, his greatest friend in the world, into the woods to see a dead body. ā€
ā€” Noah to Scott, Lydia, Malia and Liam about Stiles in Blitzkrieg

Sheriff Noah Stilinski, more commonly referred to as simply Sheriff or Stilinski, is a recurring character in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth seasons of Teen Wolf and was made a main character for the sixth season. He is the son of Elias Stilinski and an unknown mother, the husband of the late Claudia Stilinski and the father of Mieczyslaw "Stiles" Stilinski. As Sheriff of Beacon County, California, Stilinski has witnessed countless events that could not be explained, but it wasn't until Season 3 that he finally learned the truth about the supernatural world within Beacon Hills. Since then, he has worked as an ally to Stiles and their supernatural friends in order to both protect them and the town at large from supernatural threats. Though he finds it difficult to balance his duty as the Sheriff and his duty as a "pack parent," Stilinski has managed successfully dedicate himself to both roles.

Sheriff is good friends with Melissa McCall, Chris Argent, Jordan Parrish, and Derek Hale, and appears to have some romantic feelings for Natalie Martin. He is a member of the Stilinski Family and an ally of the McCall Pack.

Early life[]

Noah was born to Elias Stilinski, an Army engineer, and an unnamed mother in the mid-20th century. Elias was known for being both emotionally and physically abusive, and on at least one occasion, Noah stepped in to protect his mother from his abuse, causing his father to inadvertently throw him into a glass coffee table; his shoulder was scarred, and tiny fragments of glass remain under the now-healed wound even in the present day. ("Sundowning") Upon graduating from high school, Noah enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for an unknown length of time. ("The Fox and the Wolf")

Once his enlistment ended, he returned home and went to college, where he met and fell in love with Claudia Gajos, whom he eventually married. In the mid-1990s, Noah and Claudia had a son who was named Mieczyslaw after her father and who goes by the nickname Stiles just like Noah's own father did. ("Sundowning"), ("The Tell") After graduating from college, Noah became a Sheriff's deputy, where he worked his way up the ladder until he was ultimately elected as Sheriff of Beacon County in the early 2000s. ("Visionary"), ("The Girl Who Knew Too Much"), ("Alpha Pact") At some point in his marriage, Claudia was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a devastating illness that caused her numerous ailments such as insomnia, sleepwalking, delusions, and an inability to tell dreams from reality. ("Riddled") Noah did everything he could to help her as her health deteriorated, patiently reorienting her when the delusions overwhelmed her, such as when she mistakenly believed that their son Stiles, who was then nine years old, was trying to kill her. ("Required Reading")

During his time as a Sheriff's deputy, Noah was tasked with investigating a murder of a young man, who, unbeknownst to him, was a Beta Werewolf, causing him to have a run-in with the young man's Alpha, Ennis, who was extremely distraught over his Beta's death and who physically threatened Noah until he was told to back off. ("Currents") It was implied that Noah questioned Chris Argent regarding this death but ultimately had no proof to charge him with anything, as he didn't know that it was actually Argent's father Gerard who had killed the Beta after torturing him. ("Alpha Pact") Noah was so successful at his job as a Sheriff's deputy that he was eventually elected Sheriff of Beacon County, though he continued to personally investigate cases and go to active crime scenes.

After his promotion, Noah was one of the police officers who found the mauled Julia Baccari in the Beacon Hills Preserve after she was attacked by Kali, another Alpha Werewolf who had killed her own pack and attempted to kill Julia, her Emissary, as her initiation into Deucalion's new Alpha Pack, though this, too, was unknown to Sheriff at the time. ("The Girl Who Knew Too Much"), ("The Overlooked") His first case as a Sheriff was investigating the car crash that killed the female members of the Tate Family, including Evelyn, her biological daughter Kylie, and presumably her adopted daughter Malia, who was never found but assumed to have been dragged away and eaten by coyotes. ("Anchors")

In the early 2000s, Stilinski dealt with a stressful situation with Claudia when, during a delusional episode, she went up to the roof of Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital. When he found her up there, she claimed that she needed to get away because she was sure that Stiles was trying to kill her, and knew that Sheriff didn't believe her about this. Stilinski remained calm and reminded her that this was just the delusions talking and that Stiles, as a young child and her only son, couldn't possibly want to do her harm. When the young Stiles followed them up to the roof, Claudia once again accused him of trying to kill her and even lunged at him, clawing at him furiously until she was presumably stopped by her husband. ("Required Reading")

In 2004, Sheriff was called to the scene of another car crash, where a young girl's car had overturned upon impact and knew she was about to die. Sheriff decided to stay with her and comfort her until she passed, but became alarmed when the girl suddenly squeezed his hand so hard he was sure she would break his bones. She then told him, "If you want to be with her, you need to leave now," alluding to Sheriff's wife Claudia, who had since been permanently hospitalized at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital. Sheriff, not knowing that the girl was a Banshee who had a premonition of Claudia's death, and not believing that she could possibly know that his wife was sick, ignored this warning and stayed with the girl until she finally died. Afterward, he returned to the hospital to visit his wife, where he found the nine-year-old Stiles waiting sadly in the hallway and learned that Claudia had, in fact, died just as the girl had predicted. ("Alpha Pact")

At his wife's funeral, Sheriff saw how distraught Stiles was at the loss of his mother and assured him that he would always have him, which is what initiated the even closer bond the two would develop as a result of being each other's only remaining family. ("The Last Chimera") It has been implied that in the years following Claudia's death, Stilinski skirted the line between recreational drinking and alcoholism with his fondness for whiskey, to the point where he was encouraged to limit his drinking by his fellow deputies. ("Alpha Pact")

Throughout Teen Wolf[]

In Wolf Moon, Sheriff Stilinski and his deputies went out to the Beacon Hills Preserve with cadaver dogs after the emergency dispatcher received a call from a jogger who found half of the body of a dead young woman in the woods. While they were searching, Stilinski saw that one of his deputies and his cadaver dog had run into his son Stiles during the search and immediately identified him to the deputy before bringing him aside to chastise him for listening to his phone calls.

He then assumed that Stiles' best friend Scott McCall was with him, which was technically true, but since Scott was having issues with his asthma and struggled to keep up with Stiles, Stiles covered for him by saying that he had elected to stay home to get a good night's sleep for lacrosse try-outs the next day. Stilinski called out for Scott, not believing his son's obvious lie, but when he got no response, Stilinski simply sighed in annoyance and ordered Stiles to leave while he and the deputies continued the search for the other half of the body. However, they didn't seem to have any luck finding it, as it was located on the other side of the woods, where, unbeknownst to Stilinski or the others, Scott stumbled upon it before being bitten by an Alpha Werewolf.

In Second Chance at First Line, Stilinski was spotted at Beacon Hills High School by Scott and Stiles as he talked to the principal. Stiles asked Scott to use his Werewolf hearing to eavesdrop on their conversation, which allowed him to hear Sheriff inform the principal that he was instituting a town-wide curfew of 9:30PM for everyone under the age of eighteen as a result of the recent murder victim found in the preserve, whose top half had still yet to be found. The two discussed Derek Hale, who they believed to both be the murderer and the Werewolf who bit Scott, and how they could possibly inform the Sheriff about his involvement without bringing up the fact that he was a shapeshifter. They ultimately decided that they needed to find the other half of the body.

After the boys snuck to the Hale House ruins and found the other half of the body buried in the side yard with a wolfsbane plant planted above it with its roots tied to a rope spiral (revealing that the victim was also a Werewolf), they called Sheriff Stilinski to tell him what they found. Stilinski had Derek arrested and put in the backseat of his cruiser before leaving to talk to one of the deputies. Moments later, he caught Stiles talking to Derek in the cruiser and pulled him out before suspiciously questioning his son on how they came upon the rest of the body, leading Stiles to accidentally admit that he and Scott were indeed in the woods the night that the first half of the body was found. Sheriff, frustrated by Stiles meddling in his work, once again ordered him to leave, which Stiles did without question.

After the lacrosse game that night, Stilinski met up with Stiles on the sidelines to update him on what he had learned, which was that the medical examiner had finally completed the autopsy on the victim, who was not only identified as Laura Hale, Derek Hale's older sister, but who was also determined to be killed by an animal and not a human. Since, as far as Stilinski knew, Derek was a human and not an animal, they were forced to release him from jail.

In Pack Mentality, Sheriff Stilinski and his fellow deputies began to investigate the mauling of Garrison Myers by what they believed to be a wild animal, but who was really mauled by a Werewolf. Scott, who had a dream the previous night in which he mauled Allison Argent in the exact same location where Garrison was found, was extremely concerned when Stilinski came to the Beacon Hills Animal Clinic with one of the dogs in the Beacon County Sheriff's Department K9 Unit, as he was still unsure if or how he was involved in the mauling and was afraid that Sheriff had made a connection between them. However, Sheriff explained that he was there so the dog could get his stitches out, as well as to give Dr. Deaton some files on the recent mauling to get assistance in figuring out who had attacked Laura Hale and Garrison Myers.

In The Tell, Stilinski and Stiles were parked in Stilinski's cruiser, where they were eating fast food for dinner. Stiles protested when his father tried to eat his curly fries, since he was insistent that his father stay healthy, but Stilinski retorted that since he was carrying a lethal weapon, he would eat whatever he wanted. However, before they could argue further, the emergency dispatcher called Sheriff to inform him of a possible 187, or a homicide, at Video 2*C.

Sheriff and Stiles then immediately rushed to the video rental store, where Jackson Whittemore and Lydia Martin witnessed the store's cashier, Leveque, being mauled by a monstrous creature, who, unbeknownst to them, was the Alpha Werewolf. Sheriff Stilinski immediately had the area cordoned off before going to speak with Jackson and Lydia, who immediately demanded to just go home. Sheriff argued that Jackson had hit his head pretty hard when a shelf of DVDs fell on him and insisted that the EMTs should check to make sure he didn't get a concussion, but Jackson angrily called him a "minimum-wage rent-a-cop," which ultimately led Sheriff to let them go home.

The next day, Stilinski went into Stiles' bedroom to ask him if he was going to be hearing good news at that evening's parent-teacher conference at the high school, and when Stiles asked what his definition of "good news" was, Sheriff gave him a look and stated that it was straight-A's and no behavioral issues. Before leaving for the conference, Sheriff stopped by the animal clinic to see if Deaton had made any headway on the animal that killed Laura Hale and mauled Garrison Myers and Leveque. Deaton, seemingly nervous about Sheriff's line of questioning, insisted that he wasn't an expert, but Sheriff reminded him that he was pretty certain the attacker was a mountain lion the last time they spoke.

Stilinski then showed Deaton some of the surveillance footage from the attack at the video rental store, and though Deaton seemed to recognize the creature, he claimed he had never seen an animal go from walking on all fours to walking on two legs like that before. Sheriff seemed suspicious of Deaton when he changed the subject to the fact that he had a sick dog he needed to treat, but ultimately thanked him for humoring him before he left for the high school.

At the parent-teacher conference, Stilinski met with Coach Finstock, where he immediately became annoyed when Coach seemed confused about Stiles' name; Coach believed "Stiles" was Stiles' last name, and teased Sheriff for naming his child "Stiles Stilinski." Frustrated, Sheriff explained that "Stiles" was his nickname and that his real given name (which was neither said aloud or shown in print) was Stiles' late mother's father's name, which led the conversation to become awkward. They then moved onto the discussion about Stiles' experience at school, and Coach informed him that while Stiles is a great kid who is very smart, he lacked the ability to focus and didn't take advantage of his full potential. Coach went on to say that Stiles detailed the entire history of male circumcision on his midterm exam, and when the horrified Stilinski tried to suggest that maybe there was historical significance, Coach pointed out that he taught economics, to which Stilinski's response was "Aw, crap."

At the end of the conference, the growling of an animal was heard in the parking lot, and Stilinski, along with Chris Argent, pulled out his gun to investigate. When he was chasing down the animal, which was soon revealed to be a mountain lion, Stilinski was lightly bumped by a car and fell to the ground.

In Heart Monitor, Stilinski did not appear, but he was mentioned several times by Stiles, who continued to give Scott the cold shoulder through much of the episode out of anger that he was more concerned with protecting Allison from being hurt at the school in the previous episode than he was his father. Scott asked him how Stilinski was doing after being bumped by a moving car, but Stiles wouldn't answer him.

In Night School, after Stiles, Scott, Allison, Jackson, and Lydia were trapped in the high school by the Alpha, the five debated whether or not they should call the police to help them, as the latter three were unaware that the supernatural was involved and were under the assumption that a serial killer was trying to hurt them. Finally, Lydia called the Beacon County Sheriff's Station, but the dispatcher informed her that she had already been warned that there would be prank calls from the high school before hanging up on her, leaving them all helpless.

At the end of the night, after they were all freed from the school, Sheriff Stilinski arrived outside and asked Scott if he was sure that Derek Hale was responsible for killing the janitor earlier in the night. Mistakenly believing that Derek had been killed by the Alpha and too afraid of the powerful Werewolf to implicate him in the murders and risk exposing the supernatural to the police, Scott nodded in agreement, figuring that pinning the crime on a dead man was the easiest course of action, and Stiles confirmed his story by claiming that he saw it as well. Stilinski then grimly informed the boys that the deputies were still looking for the janitor's body, as it wasn't where the kids said it was.

In Lunatic, Stiles became extremely concerned after Scott escaped his restraints during the full moon and fled from the McCall House, causing Stiles to begin driving around the town in order to try to find his best friend. He came upon a crime scene complete with ambulances and police vehicles and ran toward it, afraid that Scott had accidentally killed his father. However, when he found that it was simply a car accident that his father was investigating, he rushed over to Stilinski to give him a hug in relief that he was okay.

In Wolf's Bane, Sheriff Stilinski, along with many of his deputies, tracked the actually-alive Derek to the high school and began chasing him in their cruisers while he ran on foot, not realizing that both Stiles and Scott ended up helping him by driving his car (whilst also being chased by Argent Hunters) and picking him up.

The next day, Stilinski went to Stiles' bedroom to talk to him, not knowing that Derek had just broken into Stiles' bedroom to hide out from the police. He thought he heard Stiles say "Derek," but Stiles insisted he just said Dad as he walked into the hallway and closed the door behind him to talk to him. Stilinski shrugged off Stiles' uncharacteristic weirdness and informed him that he had some work to take care of, but would still be there that night to see Stiles finally playing in his first lacrosse game. Stiles, who completely forgot about the game, tried to play along, and Stilinski added that he was proud of him before asking him if Coach Finstock was really going to let him play in that game. Stiles, still overwhelmed by the fact that he was harboring a fugitive in his bedroom, replied that he was actually going to be on first line, and Stilinski gave him a hug and repeated that he was proud of him before leaving for work.

Stilinski's urgent work was ultimately revealed to be questioning Adrian Harris about why Derek had gone after him. Harris reluctantly admitted that it was about something that had happened six years earlier and insisted it was before he had gotten sober. He went on to tell Stilinski that he had met a woman at a bar, with whom he had many drinks, and who had asked him a lot of questions about what he did for a living. Harris explained that he was so excited to talk to someone who actually seemed interested in chemistry after teaching bored students year after year that he didn't even question why she wanted to know how to melt the lock off of a bank vault or how to dissolve a body in acid in order to get away with murder.

Stilinski correctly assumed that this woman also asked him how to start a fire and get away with arson, and Harris nervously admitted that a week later, the Hale House had burned down. Stilinski was appalled that Harris never said anything when it happened, but Harris insisted that confessing to being an accomplice would have ended his teaching career. When Stilinski asked him if he knew what the woman's name was or where she was from, Harris made it clear that he didn't before informing him that he was going to give him the only clue he had, which was the same clue he gave to Laura Hale when she came to him prior to her death (as well as the same clue he had given Derek Hale the previous night, though he didn't mention this to Sheriff Stilinski)-- a drawing of a pendant that the woman was wearing. Harris assured Stilinski that if he found the woman wearing that necklace, he would find the arsonist. Stilinski then coldly corrected him by telling him that she was a murderer, not an arsonist, because arson happens to property, and what the person who set the Hale House fire did killed nearly a dozen people.

In Co-Captain, Sheriff Stilinski was seen investigating all the recent murders by going over each of their case files in hopes of finding a connection between them. He was able to piece together that all the victims were related to the Hale House Fire in one way or another, but was still unable to figure out who actually set the fire in in the first place. While he was working at the kitchen table in the Stilinski House, his son Stiles returned home to find him going over the files and decided to sit next to him to try to learn more about the case so he could inform Scott, who was trying to figure it out as well from a supernatural perspective. The Sheriff asked Stiles to pour him one shot of whiskey into his glass, indicating he was working hard to restrain himself from going overboard, but Stiles, who had thus far been unsuccessful in getting information from his father, poured him a large glass, murmuring that he would be going to hell for doing so under his breath due to his desire to find out what his dad knew about the murders.

Stilinski was so absorbed with his work that he drank from the glass without even noticing how full it was, causing him to get very drunk very quickly. Sheriff then revealed details of what he had learned to Stiles, such as the fact that he didn't think that Derek Hale was the killer and that the Sheriff's station was unable to get a good mugshot of him because the flash kept flaring off of his eyes. Near the end of the evening, when Stilinski was nearly asleep, he remarked that he missed Stiles and missed Claudia, causing Stiles to feel so guilty that he prevented the Sheriff from pouring himself another drink.

In Formality, Stilinski pulled over a car on a rainy night after finding that it was driving 95 miles per hour in a school zone where the limit was 25. When he approached the speeding vehicle after it pulled over, he discovered that it was Allison Argent, his son's friend. She was already crying before being pulled over, and she insisted that she wasn't doing so to avoid a ticket. Embarrassed by what she perceived as weakness on her part, Allison then demanded that Stilinski write her a ticket, though he clearly felt bad for her current state and had difficulty doing more than allowing her to go with a warning. However, when Stilinski continued to refused, Allison insisted that he write her a ticket to prove that she wasn't trying to manipulate him, and though Stilinski wanted only for her to make it home safely, he ultimately did as she asked.

In Code Breaker, Stilinski was at the hospital upon learning that Lydia Martin had been attacked on the high school lacrosse field by the recently revealed Alpha Werewolf Peter Hale and brought to safety by her then-ex-boyfriend Jackson Whittemore. Upon Jackson's arrival at the hospital to check on Lydia, Stilinski immediately confronted Jackson, believing him to be her date at the formal, and demanded to know what happened to her. Alarmed, Jackson retorted that Lydia was no longer his girlfriend and that as a result, they did not attend the dance together.

When Stilinski insisted that Jackson tell him who took Lydia to the dance, Jackson revealed that it was actually Stilinski's own son Stiles who was Lydia's date. Stunned, Stilinski set off to find his son, though, unbeknownst to him, Stiles had his keys confiscated by Peter Hale and was forced to walk all the way to the hospital to check up on Lydia. When Stiles finally showed up, Stilinski demanded to know what attacked Lydia. Wanting to give his father the answers he needed while also trying to keep the secret of the supernatural world hidden from him, Stiles vaguely explained that everything currently going on is connected to the Hale Family and the Hale House Fire, and hesitantly implied that he may know Derek Hale better than he originally let on.

Stilinski, angered by the fact that his son has been hiding so much from him, reminded Stiles that since he was elected to the position of Sheriff of Beacon County, his own son hanging out with suspected murderers would not reflect well upon him. He went on to inform Stiles that he knew that the Hale House Fire was arson rather than an accident, and that he had recently learned that the fire was set by a young woman wearing a very distinct pendant necklace with a wolf on it, a description which Stiles immediately recognized as being the ancestral necklace of the Argent Family. Stilinski was then called away to take a phone call, allowing Stiles to escape with Jackson to join the fight at the Hale House.

The day after the final battle against Peter (in which Peter killed Kate Argent for her role in the deaths of his family, and in which Allison, Scott, Stiles and Jackson worked together to weaken Peter by burning his entire body before he was finally killed by Derek Hale), Stilinski returned to the crime scene at the Hale House ruins, where he found Kate's body with the Argent pendant necklace around her neck. With this evidence in front of him (albeit planted evidence, as Chris and Victoria intended to get the heat off themselves and understood that Kate, being deceased, no longer needed their protection), Stilinski had all he needed to close the case, putting the blame for the Hale House Fire as well as the murders of Kate's co-conspirators on Kate post-mortem.

In Omega, Stilinski arranged a city-wide search after Lydia Martin went missing from the hospital after going into a fugue state following being attacked by then-Alpha Werewolf Peter Hale in Formality. Stilinski was in the middle of providing her description to dispatch when his son, Stiles Stilinski, appeared and corrected him by stating that Lydia was 5'3" with strawberry-blonde hair and green eyes, exasperating Stilinski to the point of sending Stiles home.

Meanwhile, after Kate Argent's grave was desecrated by some kind of unknown creature, Stilinski went to the Beacon Hills Cemetery the following morning to question Mr. Lahey, the groundskeeper, and his son, Isaac Lahey, on what they knew about the grave-robbing. During the interview, Stilinski noticed that Isaac had a black eye, but when he questioned the teenager on the injury, Isaac anxiously replied that he sustained it during lacrosse practice; Stilinski, knowing the boy was lying due to the tense look on Mr. Lahey's face, tried to ease his mood by replying that his son, Stiles, was also a benchwarmer on the lacrosse team. When he asked if anything was missing from the dug-up grave, Isaac reported that the body was missing her liver.

Later on in the day, Stilinski and a handful of his deputies were appointed to control the crowd of journalists who had arrived for Kate Argent's funeral, as the fact that she was blamed for all of the Hale House Fire deaths as well as all the people killed by Peter Hale in retribution, there were many angry people protesting. Shortly after the arrival of the Argent Family patriarch Gerard Argent, Stilinski caught Stiles and his best friend Scott McCall hiding behind a nearby grave, he pulled them to their feet by the back of their shirts and dragged them to his cruiser, where he locked them in the backseat. Stilinski was briefly distracted by a radio call for a 415A requiring an ambulance, and when he turned back to speak with the boys, they had already fled the car. Exasperated, Stilinski then decided to take the call and went to the crime scene, where he and the recently arrived Stiles found a naked, dirty, and scared Lydia Martin wandering out of the woods, leading Stiles and Stilinski to look away before the latter offered her his jacket.

In Shape Shifted, after Mr. Lahey's mauled body was found inside of his car with the driver's door ripped off its hinges, Stilinski showed up at Beacon Hills High School to arrest Mr. Lahey's son, Isaac Lahey for the murder, as the fact that Stilinski suspected Mr. Lahey of physically abusing Isaac led him to believe he could have been his killer. Stilinski then began questioning those who knew Isaac to see if they knew anything; when he began interviewing Jackson Whittemore, who lived across the street from the Lahey Family, Jackson confirmed that Mr. Lahey was "beating the crap out of Isaac" on a daily basis.

This horrified Stilinski, both due to the thought of Isaac being beaten by his own father as well as Jackson's glib and careless response to this news, especially once it became clear that Jackson had known about this for a while and had never said anything because he believed it was none of his business. Angry about how little Jackson cared about the constant abuse of one of his peers, Stilinski cryptically stated, "It's funny that the kids getting beaten up are always the ones that least deserve it," suggesting that he believed Jackson could use a chance to experience life in Isaac's shoes to give him some compassion toward others. A short time later, Stilinski arrived at the lacrosse field to arrest Isaac for his possible involvement in his father's death based on Jackson's testimony.

After the interview, Stilinski left the office he was using, ignoring the fact that Scott and Stiles were in the waiting room outside, having purposely gotten in trouble in hopes of figuring out what was going on with Isaac, as he had just been given the Bite by the newly ascended Alpha Werewolf Derek Hale and was now in dangerā€”the full moon that night made him run the risk of being forced to transform for the first time in a jail cell, and being locked up made it easier for the Argent Hunters to kill him due to their incorrect assumption that he killed Mr. Lahey.

Though Derek and Stiles managed to prevent the Hunter (who was sent by Gerard Argent disguised as a Sheriff's deputy) from killing Isaac with purple wolfsbane, by the time Stilinski returned to the station, he found Stiles standing over the unconscious Hunter-Deputy in front of Isaac's open jail cell, with neither Isaac nor Derek anywhere to be seen. At the sight of Stilinski, Stiles immediately exclaimed that he didn't do it, much to Stilinski's exasperation and disbelief.

In Abomination, Stilinski arrived on the scene at Tucker's Garage, where the mechanic, Tucker, had been crushed to death under a hydraulic lift while his son Stiles was waiting on his Jeep to be fixed. However, unbeknownst to Stilinski, both Stiles and Tucker had been poisoned by the venom of Beacon Hills' newest shapeshifter, the Kanima, which paralyzed them and made Tucker an easy kill.

As Stilinski was questioning Stiles, he noticed that the muscles in his hand were spasming due to the venom passing through his system, but Stiles assured him that it was nothing before reiterating that he simply walked into the garage, saw the mechanic pinned under the Jeep, and called for help, and that was all he saw. Stilinski didn't seem convinced and suggested that perhaps someone had threatened Stiles into keeping quiet about what he saw, but Stiles continued to lie and say he had no idea who did it before tiredly asking if he could go home. Stilinski finally sighed and agreed, but was forced to be the bearer of bad news when he informed his son that the Jeep was going to be impounded as evidence in Tucker's death.

In Venomous, after being threatened by the newly turned Werewolf Isaac Lahey, Jackson Whittemore was forced to go to Sheriff Stilinski's office to inform him that he lied about the fight that occurred between Mr. Lahey and Isaac the night of the former's death so that the murder charges against him would be dropped and he would no longer be a fugitive from the law. Stilinski was understandably furious by this turn of events, but ultimately got the charges against Isaac dropped so he could return to school.

In Frenemy, Stilinski and his deputies were called to Jungle after a battle was fought in the club between Derek Hale, Scott McCall, and Jackson Whittemore, who was unconsciously in Kanima form and who paralyzed numerous people (including Danny Mahealani) with his venom. Since Scott was tasked with keeping the now-unconscious Jackson quiet and hidden away from sight, Stiles was the only one left to go distract his father and try to get him out of there as quickly as possible.

Stilinski immediately demanded to know what Stiles was doing there and stared at him in disbelief as Stiles awkwardly lied that he was clubbing. Stilinski pointed out that it wasn't exactly Stiles' type of club, and Stiles, wanting to keep his father out of the supernatural world at any cost, went on to say that this was part of a larger conversation that they needed to have. Stilinski wasted no time cutting him off and insisting that Stiles wasn't gay, and when Stiles, slightly offended, argued that he could be, Stilinski retorted, "Not dressed like that."

He went on to bring up the fact that this is the second crime scene in a row where Stiles had mysteriously shown up, and he made it clear that he was so sick of the lies he had been fed that he was beginning to not be able to recognize the kid standing in front of him. Stiles, feeling guilty and clearly struggling with what to do next, and when Stilinski once again demanded the truth out of Stiles, the young man just sighed and stated that he and Scott had just come there to cheer up their friend Danny Mahealani, who was going through a bad breakup. Strangely enough, Stilinski seemed to believe this lie and didn't argue any further, simply stating that Stiles was a good friend before going to check out the crime scene.

Without anywhere else to securely contain Jackson without exposing the supernatural to the community or putting any loved ones at risk, Scott and Stiles felt they had no choice but to steal one of the Beacon County Sheriff's Department's armored transport vans to hold Jackson until they could come up with a better plan. To ensure that no one would figure out Jackson was missing, Stiles used Jackson's phone to text his parents to tell them he was staying with a friend.

Later on the next day, Mr. Whittemore appeared at the Sheriff's station to report that Jackson had gone missing. Confused, Stilinski pointed out that a text message didn't exactly mean "foul play," but Mr. Whittemore explained that, while they are a close-knit family, Jackson has been unable to say "I love you" to his parents since he found out he was adopted eleven years earlier. The message, which read, "Stayed at a friend's house last night. Everything fine. Love you," was what tipped Mr. Whittemore off that something wasn't right.

Somehow, Stilinski and his men managed to figure out that the police van had been stolen and that it was currently parked in the Beacon Hills Preserve, where Stiles, Scott, and Allison Argent had rotated shifts to keep watch over Jackson. Just as the deputies started to head out, Allison informed them that she had just learned from her grandfather Gerard that Jackson's parents went to the police, forcing Stiles to move the van to Look-Out Point in hopes of buying them some more time.

That night, Stiles arrived and found to his horror that Jackson had managed to transform and break out of the armored van, leaving the three teens with no choice but to bring their parents in on what was going on, as they were sure that Jackson was going to kill again, whether he intended to or not. When Allison asked how they were going to get Stilinski to believe all of this, Scott flashed his golden Werewolf eyes and stated that he would believe him.

Scott and Stiles then went to the Sheriff's station to try to tell him the truth about what was really going on. However, they were met at the door by a very, very unhappy Stilinski, who declared that their arrival was perfect timing before introducing them to Jackson's father as "Mr. David Whittemore, Esquire." To their surprise, Jackson, shirtless and covered in a Sheriff's deputy jacket, was sitting right next to him with a smug smile and pointed out that the "esquire" meant he was a lawyer.

In Restraint, a very angry and unhappy Stilinski read Scott and Stiles the terms of the restraining order Jackson's father David Whittemore filed on behalf of his son, Jackson Whittemore, after the two "kidnapped" him with a stolen police van (though, unbeknownst to either Stilinski or Mr. Whittemore, they did so to protect the town from Jackson, who was unknowingly the Kanima terrorizing and killing its citizens.

After explaining that Scott and Stiles were not to go within fifty feet of Jackson, nor would they approach, assault, or physically/psychologically harass people, Stiles asked about school, leading Stilinski to respond that they could all go to school together but needed to attempt to maintain a fifty-foot distance. Stiles then went on to glibly ask what would happen if they both had to use the bathroom at the same time, but when Stilinski glared furiously at his son, Stiles quickly shut up.

Following the meeting, Stilinski pulled Stiles aside and hissed, "Do I need to remind you how lucky we are that they're not pressing charges?", leading Stiles to exasperatedly claim that they were just joking around with Jackson. Stilinski was skeptical about this being a joke, but Stiles, not wanting to be in trouble but also knowing he can't expose the supernatural, weakly argued that humor was subjective and that he and Scott didn't think their actions would be taken so seriously. Stilinski gave Stiles a look and asked him how he was supposed to interpret the prison transport van that the two stole, but Stiles simply exclaimed, "We filled the tank!" in his defense.

Once Scott and Stiles left, Mr. Whittemore, still furious, began berating Stilinski for the fact that Stiles was mocking them despite the seriousness of the restraining order filed against them, leaving Stilinski in a tough position between protecting his son and upholding his duty as Sheriff of Beacon County.

In The Sword and the Spirit, Sheriff Stilinski, who was still recovering from being attacked by Noah Patrick in Status Asthmaticus, was at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital when nearly thirty bodies, who were slaughtered by the newly-resurrected Beast of Gevaudan, were brought to the morgue after being found in the sewers by Chris Argent. When Sheriff saw how distraught Jordan Parrish was and walked over to him, using a cane for support, to comfort him. He immediately guessed that Parrish was worried that his dreams were coming true and claimed that they weren't. When Parrish protested that there were twenty-four bodies, Sheriff stated that this was why he would be going back to the station to look into all the missing persons reports from the past several weeks, as that is what police officers do.

However, once Parrish left to do as he was told, Stiles, Scott, and Kira arrived to inform the Sheriff about what they had learned about the Beast. After they determined that the Dread Doctors had hidden the bodies of the people the Beast had killed to protect it like a parent protects their child, Sheriff admitted that they needed to figure out what supernatural creature Parrish was, because it seemed as though his dreams really were coming true.

The next day at school, Scott and Stiles ran into Deputy Strauss at the high school and asked him why he was holding such a powerful shotgun. Strauss confessed that the Sheriff ordered them to carry the shotguns but wouldn't explain why, causing the two to ask him what his theories were about what was going on. Strauss then stated that he wondered if it was supernatural, indicating he may have been picking up on the Sheriff's behavior.

In Amplification, Sheriff Stilinski and several other deputies, including Valerie Clark, were pursuing various dispatch reports that described sightings of the Beast of Gevaudan. Despite Sheriff's protests, Scott and Stiles were listening to the police radio in Stiles' Jeep while they followed the police. When Stiles realized that all of the sightings seemed to be indicating that the Beast was heading to Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital, he informed Sheriff of his suspicions before he and Scott followed them there. Sheriff arrived at the hospital first, and he led the boys through the halls with his gun out as they looked for the Beast.

After Scott heard a noise and pinpointed the Beast's location as being on the fourth floor, Sheriff and the boys made their way there and arrived just in time to see the Beast throw a flaming Jordan Parrish all the way down the hall until he hit the wall and fell onto the floor. Sheriff allowed Scott to investigate the Beast while he checked on Parrish, who seemed to be in a Hellhound-trance where Cerberus was in control until Sheriff managed to snap him out of it. Sheriff, Scott, and Stiles then find that the Beast's bloody paw prints made a trail that eventually turned into bloody shoe prints, indicating that the Beast's shapeshifting abilities were unique.

The next day, Sheriff met with Stiles in his office after the latter learned about Gabriel Valack's plans to perform trephination on Lydia Martin at Eichen House from Alan Deaton. Sheriff assured Stiles that he was doing everything he could to get Lydia out of Eichen House, since they were under the impression that Valack's procedure would not only kill Lydia, but cause her amplified dying Banshee Scream to also kill everyone around her. However, Sheriff made it clear that their best chance was to get Lydia's mother, Natalie Martin, to check her out, since, as Lydia's legal guardian, they would have to prove that she was unfit as a parent, a process that could take months, and trephination is technically still a valid medical procedure.

Stiles, discouraged by this news, asked if he really meant that there was nothing they could do, Sheriff corrected and insisted that that was all they could do legally, suggesting that they may have to work outside of the system to save Lydia. It is this statement that led Stiles and the rest of the McCall Pack to commit to their plan to infiltrate Eichen House and break her out. When Stiles went to Jordan Parrish to ask for his assistance in driving the deputy's van to Eichen House, Parrish was hesitant and initially disbelieved Stiles when he said that their plan had Sheriff Stilinski's full support. When Stiles asked him how he thought he got the keys to the van if the Sheriff hadn't given them the okay, Parrish retorted that he assumed that Stiles stole them before ultimately agreeing to help.

While they put the final touches on the plan, Sheriff Stilinski went to Beacon Hills High School to talk to Natalie himself in hopes of convincing her to check Lydia out and saving the pack the trouble of breaking her out themselves. However, Natalie was not interested in what he had to say and tried to get him to leave, to no avail. When the Sheriff reminded her that she knew about the closed unit at Eichen House and what the staff does there, Natalie retorted that what she did know was how to survive in Beacon Hills.

She went on to tell Sheriff several stories, including how her mother-in-law, Lorraine Martin, predicted the death of her wife Maddy, as well as how she once had a terrible feeling in college that something had happened to her sister, only to find out that she was in the hospital with a burst appendix. When Natalie pointed out that these situations happen to everyone and asked Sheriff if he knew what they were called, the Sheriff retorted, "Undeniable proof of the supernatural?", but Natalie, unimpressed by his attitude, insisted it was simply coincidence. Left with no other options, Sheriff handed Natalie the file with all of the photos of the supernatural victims of Gabriel Valack's trephination experiments and suggested that reading it would help her redefine her meaning of "coincidence."

In A Credible Threat, Stiles went to the Sheriff's station to talk to Sheriff Stilinski to ask him to cancel the charity lacrosse game, as he and the rest of the McCall Pack had a theory that the Dread Doctors would be using frequencies to force the Beast of Gevaudan's vessel to shift and attack the people in attendance. However, Sheriff insisted that he wasn't able to do so without evidence of a credible threat, as it was a charity lacrosse game that raised tens of thousands of dollars. When Stiles brought up the fact that the possibility of the Beast attacking everyone was an incredible threat, Sheriff suggested that Stiles go to Stepping Stones Rehabilitation Center to try to get Bobby Finstock to return to his job as coach of the lacrosse team, since he would have the power to forfeit before anyone could be harmed.

That night at the game, after Coach Finstock refused to forfeit the game, Sheriff met with Stiles in the parking lot to discuss their options. When Stiles suggested that they call in a bomb threat, Sheriff reminded him of the media presence that showed up at a recent bomb threat called at the airport several weeks earlier, which they were trying to avoid due to the TV vans using a frequency that could force the Beast to shift. Later on, Sheriff returned to the station, where he and Melissa McCall discussed the Chimeras. Melissa pointed out that they already identified all of the genetic chimeras in Beacon Hills, but Sheriff insisted that Gabriel Valack was sure that there was someone with two sets of DNA that they overlooked.

In The Beast of Beacon Hills, Stilinski laid out a set of road spikes in order to stop Jordan Parrish from leaving town under the belief that he was the cause of all the recent deaths in Beacon Hills. When Parrish crossed the strip, his tires were shredded, and he was forced to stop the car, allowing Stilinski and Lydia to confront him. They both made their arguments as to why Parrish should stay, with Lydia assuring him that not all death premonitions end up coming true, and Sheriff reminding him that his leaving could be what causes the deaths to happen, since he wouldn't be there to prevent them. Though Parrish initially insisted that his nature as a Hellhound made him dangerous, he ultimately heeded their advice and decided to stay.

In Apotheosis, Stilinski overheard Sebastien Valet asking for a man by the name of Argent at the front desk of the Sheriff's station. After receiving many texts from Stiles informing him that the man in front of him was really The Beast of Gevaudan, Sebastien realized that Stilinski knew who he was and reminded him what he was capable of doing. Sheriff pulled out his police-issue handgun and pointed out that his .9mm Beretta could do a lot more damage to than the muskets from Sebastien's era, but Sebastien called his bluff and threatened to kill everyone in the station if he didn't help him get what he wanted.

Not wanting to put so many innocent lives in danger, Stilinski reluctantly escorted him out of his office. When Deputy Clark saw that Stilinski had his sidearm clutched in his hand, she drew her own gun despite his protests that she let it go. Clark aimed her gun at Sebastien and told him to freeze, causing Sebastien to partially transform into the Beast and start to attack. Both Sheriff and Clark began to shoot at him as Lydia rushed into the bullpen to find out the source of the commotion. Just as Sebastien had knocked Clark out and had turned toward Lydia, she thrust her hands forward and Banshee screamed as he grabbed her in a choke-hold with his clawed hand. Though Lydia's scream successfully threw him backward toward the entrance, she still sustained deep claw gashes on her throat in the process. When Hayden Romero arrived to visit her sister Clark, Sebastien attacked her and forced her to lead her to the Dread Doctors' operating theater, giving Sheriff the chance to pick Lydia up and rush her to Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital so Melissa McCall could treat her wounds.

Some time after the Beast was defeated, Sheriff and Stiles discussed the events of the battle in Sheriff's office at the station. He congratulated his son on his part in saving the town and asked him if doing so helped alleviate the guilt he still felt after accidentally killing Donovan Donati in self-defense. Stiles admitted that it did, for a little while. Sheriff smiled before informing him that his heroism as one of the members of the McCall Pack, who protected the town from supernatural threats, was a perfect first step in his future career in law enforcement, insinuating that Stiles would be following his footsteps after graduation by coming a Sheriff's deputy.

Personality[]

Noah Stilinski is a strict and confident man who is known for being tough and even a hot-head at times; however, despite these traits, he has proven himself to be a very intelligent person with a highly developed intuition, which is what makes him such a good police officer and ally to the McCall Pack. His moral compass, code of ethics, and sense of duty to protect the innocent is what guides himā€”even if he knows it would be easier, more convenient, or simply better to lieā€”and his dedication to upholding the law is what typically keeps him from doing so.

This caused him a great deal of internal conflict upon finally learning about the supernatural, as he is someone who relies on logic, intellect and reason to understand the world, which made the revelation of creatures who defied everything he knew to be true difficult to accept, especially given that this world often existed outside of the law. As a result, he was forced to learn how to bend the rules in order to both protect the town from supernatural threats while also protecting the members of the McCall Pack and their alliesā€”who essentially act as his supernatural police forceā€”from having their supernatural identities exposed to the town.

Stilinski enjoys eating unhealthy fast food, much to his son's disapproval; Stiles even once switched his meal of a cheeseburger and curly fries to a salad for the sake of his father's health, as the Sheriff was the only family he had left and he wanted him to live as long as possible. Recently, the Sheriff's wife, Claudia (who, due to the shift in reality by the Ghost Riders, was conjured back into his life as a phantom) jokingly gave her husband a large quinoa and kale salad for dinner before revealing that she had actually bought him a hamburger and fries, which the Sheriff gleefully ate instead, demonstrating that his love for unhealthy food is well known to anyone who knows him.

As a police officer and a former soldier, Stilinski has a great deal of self-control over his emotions and has been trained to remain calm even in the most tense and life-threatening of scenarios. This also makes him great at being able to negotiate with those who threaten the lives of innocent people and mediate between opposing parties, such as when he tried to talk down Matt Daehler when he and Jackson Whittemore, the Kanima under his control after they had taken over the Sheriff's station, or when he tried to negotiate a deal between the McCall Pack and their allies (including Jiang and Tierney, both of whom were the only remaining survivors of Satomi Ito's pack of Buddhist Werewolves), and Quinn, a member of a pack known as The Primal) and Monroe's army of Hunters. He has also used this trait of his to help calm down victims of traumatizing or violent crimes.

Above all, Stilinski's strongest quality is his sense of loyalty. It does not matter if it his blood family, his friends, his allies, or his coworkersā€”if Stilinski believes someone to be a person he likes and trust, he will fight for, protect, and defend them, even at the risk of his own safety and well-being. This has been shown to be true on numerous occasions over the course of the series, but was proven to the highest degree during the second half of Season 6, when Stilinski was given the chance to stay out of the battle over the course of several weeks by his fellow deputies who had joined Tamora Monroe and Gerard Argent's army of Hunters and refused it every time; the final time, when Deputy Ferrell argued that they had no interest in coming after him, Stilinski retorted that if they were coming for his friends, they were coming for him, and refused to choose a life of safety at the expense of his loved ones.

Physical Appearance[]

Sheriff Stilinski is a tall, handsome middle-aged man with a lean, athletic build. He has short, light brown hair, slightly tanned white skin, and hazel eyes. He is typically seen as wearing his Sheriff uniform due to nearly always being on duty, but in his free time, he is seen wearing casual and comfortable clothing such as relaxed fit jeans and henley shirts. On special occasions, he has been seen wearing suits and ties, such as during the parent-teacher conference at school, or during his date with Natalie Martin. He wore his simple gold wedding band on his left ring finger throughout his marriage to Claudia and for years after her death until he finally removed it in Season 5 when he decided to finally start dating again.

Powers and Abilities[]

As a human, Stilinski has no supernatural powers to speak of. However, he is not without helpful abilities; due to having been a former soldier in the US Army and currently being a Sheriff, he is highly trained in close-quarters combat and has a high-level of knowledge in weaponry, as evidenced when he used a powerful shotgun against the Oni and was able to identify Violet's necklace as being a thermowire garrote. He is a very skilled marksman, as he was able to free Alan Deaton when his wrists were bound with rope and suspended from the ceiling by carefully shooting the short length of rope between his hands and the ceiling itself without harming Deaton in the process.

His combat skills remain at a high level even despite being in his early middle-age, as proven when he fought three young Sheriff's deputies, including Deputy Ferrell, all at once without any assistance; he was able to quickly incapacitate all three deputies without any weaponry and while only sustaining a bloody nose in the fight, earning respect from his opponents after the fact. Stilinski is also quite good at thinking on his feet, such as when he used a claymore mine that was initially used by The Mute to kill Derek Hale to blow up a Berserker who was threatening Mason Hewitt and Lydia Martin.

He is also very knowledgeable when it comes to the law and how criminals operate, and is quite skilled in strategy and problem-solving due to his long career as a law enforcement officer and a soldier, making him very capable when it comes to solving the supernatural mysteries of Beacon Hills, albeit with help from the McCall Pack and their allies. This was evidenced on several occasions, including: when he figured out that Alan Deaton was being held at the First National Bank after finding the Celtic symbol in his clinic that matched the logo of the bank; when he figured out that Julia Baccari, the woman he found mauled in the woods years earlier, and the high school English teacher Jennifer Blake were the same person; and when made the connection between the Dread Doctors and their choice of teenagers (i.e. choosing teens who were already genetic chimeras due to organ and/or tissue transplants) to be turned into Chimeras, among many other instances.

Etymology[]

  • Noah: Noah is a masculine given name derived from the Hebrew name נוֹחַ (Noach), which itself was likely of Babylonian or Assyrian origin from the word nukhu, meaning "rest, repose." Another possible source of the name is derived from the Hebrew root nahum, meaning "to comfort." According to the Old Testament, Noah was the builder of the Ark that allowed him, his family, and two members of each animal species to survive the great Flood. After the Flood, he received the sign of the rainbow as a covenant from God. As an English Christian name, Noah has been used since the Protestant Reformation and was especially popular among Puritans. Variants of the name in other languages include: Nuh (Arabic, Turkish); Now (Biblical Greek, Biblical Latin); Noach (Dutch, Biblical Hebrew, Modern Hebrew); Nooa (Finnish); NoĆ© (French, Portuguese, Spanish); Nojus (Lithuanian); Noak (Swedish).
  • Stilinski: Though this name has been implied to be of Slavic (specifically Polish) origin, it appears to be a made-up surname with no discernible etymology as far as it is known.
