Boyd: "I just wanna not eat lunch alone every day."
Scott: "If you're looking for friends, you can do a lot better than Derek."
Derek: "That really hurts, Scott. I mean, if you're going to review me, at least take a consensus. Erica, how's life been for you since we met?"
Erica: "Hmm. In a word...Transformative.
Derek: "Isaac?"
Isaac: "Well, I'm a little bummed about being a fugitive, but otherwise, I'm great."

Ice Pick is the third episode of Season 2 and the fifteenth episode of Teen Wolf.

Synopsis[]

Scott tries to keep Derek from creating new werewolves. Chris Argent officially begins Allison's training. The new creature in town takes another victim.

Plot[]

Allison is fuelling up her car when the lights at the gas station go out. Someone throws a black bag over her head and kidnaps her. She ends up bound and gagged at Derek's house, sitting across from her father while a booming, ominous disembodied voice makes vague threats. Argent breaks from his binds and reveals that he set up this whole kidnapping as a way to get Allison started on her hunter training. As her first test, she must free herself from her binds. It takes her two and a half hours, which Argent's protege, waiting outside, informs her is a good time - it took him over three hours to free himself when he went into training. She leaves. As the other hunter heads to his motorcycle, a tentacle-y, vine-y appendage trips him. He fights, but ultimately falls. In the moonlight, ice claws gleam.

At school, one of Scott's classmates, Erica, has gone through an amazing transformation. The epileptic girl was shy and an outcast who wore unflattering clothing and didn't brush her hair. Suddenly she shows up, sexy and smoking hot, wearing the tiniest miniskirt and the highest heels, flaunting her goddess-like sexuality to everyone. It doesn't take long for Scott to see what has happened: Derek turned her with promises of power and "curing" her epilepsy. Scott and Stiles take Allison and Lydia on a "double-date" to the ice rink, after hours, their schoolmate, Boyd, works there and gave them the key. Lydia discovers purple flower petals scattered about the ice. She follows them and sees wolfsbane planted right in the ice. Crouching down, she sees a shadow beneath the surface... a man is under the ice, and his eyes open as he tries to break free. Lydia freaks out (rightly so) - but it is all in her mind.

After a confrontation in the hall with Erica, Scott starts to put the pieces together. Derek turned her, he turned Isaac. He needs at least one more to make a full pack. When Boyd isn't at school, it seems pretty obvious who Derek's next target is. There is no answer at Boyd's house, so Scott goes to the ice rink, where Boys is Zamboning the ice. Scott tries to talk him out of getting the bite, but Boyd - also an outcast, apparently - is looking for a place to belong. Even after Derek told him about the hunters, he still wants to turn. Derek, Isaac, and Erica turn up, and the battle is on for control of Boyd. Derek sends his goons after Scott, who takes them out pretty easily. Next it is Derek's turn. The two fight, and it ends with Scott, bloodied and wounded on the ice, Derek hovering over him in victory. Boyd reveals to Scott that Derek already gave him the bite, and heads off with his new pack.

Jackson believes that Lydia is immune to the Werewolf curse, and blames her for "immunizing him" against turning. Both Argent and Scott (separately) turn to the vet for information about werewolves, and it seems he has a lot to tell Scott (next week, of course). Allison's mom deliberately slices open her arm so that she has an excuse to go to the hospital and get stitched up by Scott's mom. Mrs. Argent is trying to find out if Scott and Allison are sneaking around, and when Mrs. McCall reveals that Scott didn't seem too heartbroken, Mrs. Argent decides they are indeed still seeing each other.

Guest Cast[]

  • Marvin Duerkholz as Cody
  • William Gerber as Lacrosse Player
  • Will Jeziorski as Lacrosse Player

Continuity[]

  • Erica Reyes and Vernon Boyd make their first appearance in the series in this episode.
  • Allison officially begins her Hunter training in this episode. She first learned that her family were Hunters in Wolf's Bane.
    • During this training, Chris Argent references the Hunter Allison shot with an arrow while trying to rescue Isaac in Shape Shifted.
  • This episode marks the first time that it's implied that a Hunter who is bitten by a Werewolf must kill themselves before they turn, a fact that will continue to have implications throughout the series.
  • Lydia Martin has a hallucination of Peter Hale and a Wolfsbane plant growing out of the ice at the ice rink, further hinting the fact that she's being haunted by Peter's spirit. Her first hallucination due to this haunting occurred in Omega.
  • Matt Daehler mentions that Jackson borrowed his camera and subsequently cracked the lens. Jackson borrowed the camera in Shape Shifted to record his transformation on the full moon.
  • Alan Deaton once again helps Scott heal from the wounds he sustained from a fight with Derek and continues to avoid his questions about how he knows about the supernatural. It was first revealed that he knew about Werewolves in Co-Captain.
  • Victoria Argent finds a note Scott wrote to Allison in Omega that reads "Because I love you" on it in Allison's bedroom, alerting her to the fact that Allison and Scott are not as broken up as they appear to be. This begins a paranoia about their relationship that will continue through the end of the season.
    • "Because I love you" is a reference to Season 1's Formality, when Scott kissed Allison and made that statement to explain himself, as well as the season finale Code Breaker, when Allison kissed Scott while he was still in Werewolf form and had the same answer when he questioned her about it.
  • Jackson is almost shot by Chris and the rest of his Hunters when he goes to the Hale House to demand to know why the Bite didn't change him. This is the second time that Jackson's intention to become a Werewolf has nearly cost him his life. The first time occurred in Co-Captain, when Derek was instructed by Peter to kill him to keep him from exposing them.
  • Bennett is killed by the new shapeshifter in this episode, making him the second victim after Mr. Lahey was killed in Shape Shifted.
  • Jackson demonstrates that he has super strength in the heat of the moment in this episode, though his ability to use it is inconsistent at best, suggesting that the Bite didn't necessarily fail as Jackson assumed. This is the first instance that he has been shown to use a supernatural power.

Trivia[]

  • The title is a reference to the ice rink where much of the episode takes place, and the fact that Derek "picked" Boyd to become his next Beta by giving him the Bite there.
