"What the hell is happening to me?" "We'll figure it out. You're going to be okay." "Am I? Are you? Scott, you can't transform. Allison's being haunted by her dead aunt, and I'm straight-up losing my mind. We can't do this. We can't help Malia. We can't help anyone." "We can try. We can always try."
It is confirmed that Malia Tate is a Werecoyote in this episode. She was first seen in coyote form in Anchors, and also marks the first-ever appearance of a Werecoyote in the series.
Scott, Stiles, and Allison manage to finally overcome the side-effects of their death and resurrection in the surrogate sacrifice ritual they performed in Alpha Pact.
Scott, who was unable control his Werewolf transformation out of fear that he would become a monster like Peter Hale or Deucalion, was able to finally shift into Werewolf form so that he could use his Alpha Roar to force Malia to shift back into a human so her father couldn't shoot her. Afterward, his lycanthropy was once again under control.
Stiles, who was suffering from acute alexia that prevented him from being able to read, managed to disarm a steel-jawed trap attached to a pressure plate that Lydia stepped on to prevent her from getting hurt even without this issue. Afterward, Stiles found that he was able to read again, and no longer had any other negative side-effects related to the ritual.
The Oni demons make their first appearance at the end of the episode when they come out of the Nemeton in the form of fireflies and manifest themselves out of the shadows. However, they will not be seen in their fully-cloaked and masked form until Galvanize.
Stiles has a panic attack in this episode. The last time he was seen having a panic attack was in Alpha Pact, after learning that Chris Argent had been captured by Jennifer Blake and completed the "guardian" sacrifice trio that included his father and Melissa McCall.
Braeden appeared in this episode. She was last seen in Tattoo.
It is also revealed that they can no longer merge together to form "Volton Wolf," as Jennifer breaking the neck of their merged form in Lunar Ellipse essentially killed that part of them.
Kate Argent appeared in this episode in one of Allison's hallucinations. She was last seen in hallucinations in Anchors, and was last seen alive in Code Breaker.
This episode marks the first appearance of La Loba, a person that the Calaveras will continue to look for throughout the rest of Season 3B. However, her identity will not be revealed until The Divine Move, though Derek will mistakenly believe that they are after Cora until that point.
It is revealed that Derek speaks fluent Spanish in this episode (along with other languages, according to Araya), which will come up again in Season 4's 117.
Kira references Bardo again when she gives Scott more research on the concept, which she first brought up to the McCall Pack in Anchors.
It is confirmed by Ken Yukimura in this episode that Kira has a crush on Scott, which begins the friendship between the two that will eventually grow into a romantic relationship.
Scott references the time that Peter Alpha-roared and forced him to transform in Season 1's Night School, and the time that Deucalion did the same to him in the distillery in Lunar Ellipse.
Ethan and Aiden ultimately teach Scott to Alpha-roar as well, which he will utilize frequently from now on.
Allison has a hallucination of Kate that involves her performing surgery on her while she's awake and aware before transforming with claws and fangs and eating her organs. This could possibly have been a premonition of sorts as to Kate's resurrection and reappearance as a Werejaguar in The Divine Move.
Trivia
The title refers to Lydia's earlier question of whether trying to get Malia to shift back into a human was causing her more harm than good.
